Nobody at Hajime Kindaichi's school takes him seriously. After all, whenever he does bother to show up for class he usually just falls asleep. What they do take seriously are the recent ghost sightings around campus and the threatening letters from someone calling himself the 'Afterschool Magician.' Who is this Afterschool Magician, and what is he after? A few members of the school's Mystery Club tried to find out, and they turned up dead. Luckily for Kindaichi, he's an accomplished magician in his own right, but if he's going to crack this case he'll need to rely on every trick in the book.

Hajime Kindaichi
Although this 17-year-old high school junior has an IQ of 180, Hajime's slacker attitude has earned him a reputation as poor student and something of a troublemaker. But he's actually a brilliant amateur detective, who uses his uncanny powers of observation and deduction to solve even the most unusual of cases. Hajime is the grandson of Kousuke Kindaichi, a celebrated detective in his own right.

Miyuki Nanase
Also a 17-year-old high school junior. She has been friends with Hajime since childhood. Unlike Hajime, she is a popular, straight-A student. And, unbeknownst to her, she is also Hajime's love interest.

Isamu Kenmochi
A police inspector who is an occasional partner of Hajime.

Kengo Akechi
An extremely smart police superintendent who enjoys a competitive friendship with Kindaichi.

Satoh Fumiya - Illustrator
Kanari Yozaburo - Writer

Satoh Fumiya is also the author of a manga series called Tantei Gakuen Q.

Kanari Yozaburo has written the manga series, Minzoku Gakusha Yakumo Tengu Densetsu Satsujin-jiken, which was serialized in the Japanese periodical, Young Jump.
