Thanks, Soja. It was nothing, really. Just a true fan(atic) with a ridiculous drive for more reasons than one. It was really no different than what happened with the Firefly series--it just needed the right person to kick it off. Ironically, I only got the books today, since they were mailed to a place with my in-laws that we recently moved out of abruptly, I belatedly picked them up for my birthday. Anyway, thanks for the thanks. Despite all the attention Slayers Challenge received during its activity, it seems a lot of people still don't know what it was--which makes me wonder how big of an effort it really could have become. I wish we could still have the website up to act as a fan-hub, but alas, time just... doesn't allow for it.

This was a long time coming. But especially pleasing to me is the flow of continuity TokyoPop kept with the cover art format and internal formatting. It's not a real big deal, but it's one of the small things that jerks me around. The release of this and the proceeding volume is a victory for light novels and Slayers fans alike. I sincerely hope that TokyoPop continues to release the rest of the Slayers novels, and I hope that the normally quiet fan community continues to spread the word about Slayers. Lastly, a personal thanks and congratulations to my friend, Minerva, whose passion for Slayers was the catalyst for Slayers Challenge. Her fervor, though we were contentious at times, ultimately makes this old fan of the series proud.

...I couldn't remember the password to my old account. But, I'm so glad to see these out. I see people still complaining about the advertising, but as we battled for these books and advertisement for them for a few years, I don't see the ads changing any time soon. I'm just glad that these books have been released. I hope that the sales do well enough to encourage them to release the next plot arc. For those interested in helping promote this series, check out the journal at irk.deviantart.com for Slayers Challenge notices. Also at slayerschallenge.deviantart.com and itachikiritsu.deviantart.com . Because of these gatherings, these books were released. While irk and I don't have the time to run slayers challenge anymore, people are always free to start their own organization. Email me at doomchocobo at aol dot com with a clear subject title if you want us to help promote your gathering for Slayers. Thank you, both to fellow fans who helped make this possible, and to Tokyopop itself for listening to its consumers.

It is one of the best of the series yet!!! I stayed up to 1 in the morning to finish it. ^-^ Life is wonderful!

Will they be in stores in Canada, though? I check Chapters.ca pretty often and nothing's appearing for the two new novels, even when I search the ISBN number. ^^; I won't be able to get them unless I can order them from Chapters, too... D:

Guys, they pushed back the date so they could also release it in stores so this is a GOOD thing for Slayers fans. On that note, TokyoPop pleasepleasePLEASE finish the novel series! I really want to know what happens with Dynast and what should have happened after Slayers Next!

11.27.2007 01:06 PM

I hope 7 & 8 will be available on Chapters.ca... that's the only place I can order them unless they're in stores.

11.03.2007 07:08 PM

Heh, I just ordered this one and book 8 on amazon. But I had to search for the ISBN number to find it. While the first six books on amazon are registerred as Slayers text vol 1 - 6, this one is registered as "Slayers Volume 7", which explains why I never managed to find it when searching for the slayers text books.

I think you can probley get tham on amozon as well has here. I also I agree with you too. Slayers is my favorite series yet they barly avertise it. But I tell my friends about it all the time so I'm a walking avertisment.

10.25.2007 07:47 PM

Are novels 7 & 8 going to be available in stores, or can you only order them online?

Thanks for finishing the story arc to it's completion, at least. I have to agree with the others that the advertising for this series is EXTREMELY lacking, which is dissapointing, since The Slayers is a great series that really appeals to a wide range of people. I hope you change your mind about volumes 9 - 15. These are the most widely anticipated, as they'll bring us brand new Slayers stories, since the material in the first half of the book was covered in the anime.

I too was very disappointed that the July release date for Slayers wasn't met. I mean, I'm very grateful that we're even getting 7 and 8, especially after TokyoPop tried to push Vol. 6 as the finale of the series despite exclaiming about how it was 15(!) volumes. It was really volumes 9 - 15 that I was most excited about since its what deviates from the anime's story arcs, but I've really loved the first 6 volumes of this great series. It seems that Slayers always gets the short end of the stick. The DVD releases from Software Sculptures had audio issues and missing scenes... CPM's release of the manga got cut a volume short... and then with the novels, TokyoPop removed the color insert pages after Vol. 2, and now with the delay, it'll be 2 years (Instead of "only" 1½) between Vol. 6 and 7/8. I'd also have to agree that there was little to no advertising of the novels... Actually, the first wave of manga novels really didn't get much publicity at all and the new Pop-Fiction line is suffering from not relating enough to animes/manga (The covers of Scrapped Princess and Kino no Tabi in Japan actually featured the characters and could at least advertise what they actually were a bit better). I'd hoped that re-release of the anime through Funimation would have sparked up some new interest in the series, but Funimation's releases don't really coincide with the novels in terms of timing (I believe Slayers TRY comes out in December, which I guess could be as good as it gets since its somewhat close to the new release date of (hopefully) Jan. 15th). Lastly, I'll have to agree that TokyoPop's site becomes more and more unwieldy, and its harder to actually find any information regarding titles and their release dates. I'm very much looking forward to Slayers 7 & 8, and I'm very grateful that we're even getting the chance to finish the story arc. I understand that sales are important, I just really wished that TokyoPop would have been more loyal to its supporters of their series, and not stopped short. I hope that if they decide not to continue with Vol. 9-15 that they do something with the licensing rights so there is some small shred of hope that some other company can pick them up and the fans aren't completely screwed.

I am going to have to agree with everyone here. Your advertising was pretty much non-existent, and Slayers fans everywhere are angry about this last minute(literally) decision to push books that you claimed were ready to be shipped back by NEARLY HALF A YEAR!! The explanation had better be a good one as others have stated! Also the site layout is VERY confusing! I liked the old site much better! I type in Slayers, and then get a bunch of .Hack stuff...

Most of the stuff I want to say has already been said by others, so I won't waste time by repeating it. About the advertising: If you advertized these books more, they'd probably sell a LOT better. These books are amazing. I realize, that as a diehard obsessive Slayers fan, I have a pretty biased opinion, but still, I think I would have liked this even if I'd never heard of Slayers before. Hajime Kanzaka's a really good writer. And whoever you guys got to translate these books deserves a raise. They did a really excellent job with these. I've fan translations on the internet, and there's just no comparison (though admittedly, they weren't fluent english-speakers). And about delaying the release date, I'm still waiting for an explanation for why you guys did that. I had better be a REALLY good one. These books were the basis for what a lot of anime fans consider to be the best part of the entire anime series. I've been waiting for you to release these books for almost a year. If your going to make me wait another half-year at the last-minute, I wanna know why.

I have to agree with the comment before me. This took over an hour to find, because when I searched Slayers I got nothing but fan based stuff. Also, the new layout is very NOT friendly to someone such as me, who is browsing with a slow computer. All the adverts and animations look nice, but hinder the download process. And yes, your advertising lacks a certain something, as I would have NEVER known you were continuing with seven and eight unless a fellow Slayers fan on LiveJournal had not posted it in her journal. She said she found out from a Japanese magazine. :|

I was very, very disappointed that you did not honor your publication date for v. 7 & v. 8 when you initially indicated you would, especially as my birthday is in July. I even pre-ordered them at least a month ahead of time. All the Slayers fan forums (there are actually quite a few) have had messages of anger and dismay about this. Whether you realize it or not, there are even fans who want the English translations in non-English speaking countries like Spain, France, and Germany. To add insult to injury, you changed the date so close to the expected publication date and gave no explanation on the web page for v. 7 & v. 8. Some cynics even said they didn't pre-order because they were afraid you'd do something like you did. If the pre-orders were insufficient, perhaps it is because your advertising needed a lot of work. Fans only found out from other fans on the various forums that the novels were to be published. The way your website is structured now, it is even harder to find information on your novels, as they are not differentiated from the manga that I could see when I looked at the site two days ago. When I tried using the search engine, it pulled up 34 pages of results with videos, video clips, posters, fanart, etc. for Slayers. When I tried to narrow the search down, I got the same results. It seems to search only on the first term. Your help button is no help at all for explaining your search parameters or operators. Not all browsers operate the same. (I have to say you seem to be sugar-coating with trendy social networking the fact your main purpose is publishing and sales. Yet you could be defeating that central goal. The various forums' people I've heard complain about the added difficulty finding information on your products are very web design savvy people. The new website could well be preventing the sale of your products online instead of enhancing it. I'm sure you will get plenty of praise from people about the new capabilities and the look, but will they actually be able to find what they want and increase your sales? Will they be all "play" and no "buy"? Will they leave your site for good if you disappoint them the way you have the Slayers fans? There are myriads of fan social networking sites out there. This site is not needed for making connections with other fans or posting fanworks, but it is needed for information on official manga and anime products. That needs to be made more simple, not more difficult.)
