If this Ben Roman (the artist) isn't an alias for Jhonen Vasquez. Then he is a d-bag for ripping off Jhonen's style. Imitation is supposed to the greatest form of flattery, but dude... seriously. I hope JTHM isn't looking for that Ben guy.

That boy in the cover reminds me of some kinda chibi-Ichigo from Bleach. xD It looks just like him when he is turning in to a hollow. ^^ But in chibi-form. But this looks cool I might even get it. *w*

12.31.2007 12:00 AM

From Publishers Weekly

Finch and his sister, Moochie, are all ready for Halloween, and they look adorable. Finch is dressed as a zombie, while Moochie is the Tooth Fairy. By the time we realize that Moochie is stealing teeth from a house full of dead bodies, and Finch knows more about zombies than any child has a right to, we've already been drawn into their cute but gruesome world. Giffen (Formerly Known as the Justice League) and Roman (The Lonely Tombstone) have concocted a black comedy that reads as if Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton had collaborated on a Halloween heist story. As the story progresses, a mysterious kid dressed as a devil who might just be one, razor blades in apples, a boy named Mr. Kitty with a breast fetish, a dead dog, a missing bra and much more mix together for a lively and inventive tale. Giffen's darkly humored script draws laughs from such things as evisceration while capturing the childlike glee at dressing up and walking by a scary graveyard. He also leaves plenty of mysteries for the next two volumes to solve. Cocreator Roman's art is occasionally too detailed for the small pages, but he excels at unique character designs and macabre details. Full of ghoulish tricks, I Luv Halloween is a seasonal treat that the not easily offended will thoroughly enjoy.

From Variety's Bags and Boards

So? At last, fart jokes! Keith Giffen shows just how funny he can be, even when he's not making fun of superheroes in this little gem that has more than a handful of laugh-out-loud moments. Story follows a weird group of South Park-style pals for whom Halloween means only one thing: Candy. But it's a lot weirder than it sounds, as the kids wear their masks throughout the entire story and there's more than a few strange things going on in town around them. These kids talk more like smartass youths than little kids, but they're still kind of pure in their simple cynicism and witty banter. Roman's art looks like a demented version of the Klasky-Csupo Rugrats style, and is funny all on its own. The best bits in the story involve a lusty teen's attempt to get back her bra from a little girl who's turned it into a rather deadly slingshot. There's not much more to it, but it's definitely weird and definitely funny.

From ListerX

The characters are unique as they each have their own special grotesque look about them; all characters are cute, yet scary at the same time. The backgrounds are creepy in design as they give the reader the feel that it is Halloween and its time to trick those who don't treat.... I Luv Halloween v.01 was not only a visual display of goodness, but also a comedic and bizarre tale of friends who go trick-or-treating and the violent things they do to the candy givers who don't give the sugary surprises.... I absolutely loved the humor (lots of crude, perverted, messed up comedy that is sure to make almost anyone crack up), the random violence... All I can tell readers is to be on the lookout for this release; it will surely make you die laughing!

I love I Luv Halloween

I picked I Luv Halloween at my bookstore, and I wasn't sure what to expect. What I got was an awsome story, with great artwork and some very creepy, yet somehow cute kids.

Halloween has always been and always will be about one thing...getting the best CANDY. And, some fiendish friends excel at tricks if they don't get the right treats. When these gremlins receive a frickin' apple at their first house of the night, they plan deadly revenge on the offending fruit-favoring old-timer. Join the misadventures of a group of particularly disturbing trick-or-treaters as they go about their macabre business on Halloween night.

Finch
Prepubescent ennui personified. The unflappable ringleader of the loose-knit group of kids that make up the series' trick-or-treater core.

Pig Pig
The name says it all. Slovenly, gross and borderline feral, Pig Pig epitomizes all things stomach churning. The Garbage Pail Kids have nothing on Pig Pig.

Devil Lad
The closest thing Finch has to a real friend, mostly due to the fact that Devil Lad only seems to show up on Halloween.

Mr. Kitty
The pervert. A deviant in the making. The kid most likely to fish Playboy magazines from dumpsters and snicker over the pictures. If it's in questionable taste, it's Mr. Kitty.

Spike
Never says a word because he never has anything worth saying. Alleged to be Mr. Kitty's little brother, alleged because Mr. Kitty not only denies it, but spends an inordinate amount of time trying to kill Spike and make it look like an accident.

Moochie
Finch's little sister. The single most evil, sinister, heartless, homicidal, sadistic creature walking the Earth. But cute? As a button!

Mush
Finch's dog. Messed up beyond words due to Moochie "love." Prone to letting loose with any animal noise except a bark.

Bubbles and Squeek
Two of the town's meaner bullies/trick-or-treat bag slashers. Misplaced aggression on the hoof.

Nips
The town's cheerleader wet dream. Drop-dead gorgeous wrapped around the single most vapid human being ever conceived.

Joad
Nips' loathsome, toadish, ill-mannered best friend. A self-sabotaging bundle of low self-esteem determined to drag Nips along for the ride down.

Keith Giffen (writer)
A veteran comic book artist and writer who is best known for his critically acclaimed work on Justice League and Legion of Super Heroes, Keith Giffen is currently working on several projects for DC Comics and co-writes and illustrates Dominion for Image Comics. He also rewrites Battle Royale and Battle Vixens for TOKYOPOP.

Ben Roman (artist)
Born in 1977, Benjamin's childhood was heavily influenced by comic books and sci-fi movies. Although he always loved to draw, he never considered a career in art until he moved to Los Angeles in 2003.

I don't know about you, but for me, Halloween has mainly been about one thing. No, not candy—although I'd always have to keep a stash hidden from my older brother, who'd beat me silly for my Halloween stash of treats.

And Halloween isn't about the costumes—although I remember once many years ago I dressed up as C-3PO, and the mask tasted awful, like spoiled plastic. I still have that taste in my mouth.

Anyway, I digress. I do like candy, and I do like costumes. But for me, Halloween is all about the mischief, especially the macabre, chilling kind—you know: bloodcurdling tricks, disturbing mayhem, and everything in between. That's what draws me to I Luv Halloween. And I'd like to invite you to join the misadventures of a group of particularly unsettling trick-or-treaters as they go about their "business" on Halloween night.

Read these tales during a scary sleepover in the dead of winter, or in the heat of summer when you just can't sleep. Anytime; it doesn't matter. I mean, who doesn't love Halloween?
