for those who want something a little more on the yaoi side Yun Kouga also did earthian. the artwork is, impossibly, even better. I only have the first 2 of that series tho, so not sure how graphic it gets. loved the white/ with white friends comment. i've loved anime since the days of liquid television. reading the manga of an anime series only makes it better.

Unique, visually stunning, and complex characters. I will admit that I was put off by the cat ears at first, but they add an interesting layer of themes to the story. Both sad and funny, and the plot gets better with each volume, though it's really the characters I'm here for. They are all so deliciously complex, even the minors. (Was there ever one as enigmatic as Soubi?) To those wondering, Yun Kouga broke her ankle in a bicycling accident, (if I remember correctly), which is part of the reason why volume nine has been taking a while.

Ritsuka Aoyagi
A loner by nature, but apparently only since a second personality of his emerged two years ago. The one person he was close to was his older brother Seimei, who revealed a secret name to him, "Beloved," a mere month before he was mysteriously killed. Ritsuka is cold, and sometimes even cruel towards others, but melts quickly when faced with genuine affection and friendship.


Seimei Aoyagi
Ritsuka's late brother. While he was always kind to Ritsuka, the full extent of his relationship with Soubi is unclear.


Soubi Agatsuma
Previously Seimei's "Fighting Unit," he was ordered by Seimei to get close to Ritsuka and protect him, should Seimei ever be killed. At first, he only acts under his deceased master's orders, but the two become increasingly close as the story progresses, and their relationship becomes more and more complicated.


Yuiko Hawatari
A cute, busty, but somewhat slow girl at Ritsuka's new school. Somewhat of an outcast herself, she quickly tries to become friends with the mysterious, cranky newcomer.


Yayoi
A fervent admirer of Yuiko's, Yayoi is at first jealous and angry at her fast friendship with Ritsuka, but he soon becomes friends with them as well.


Yun Kouga
Kouga-sensei is the fan-favorite artist of several hit manga series, including Earthian. Many of her stories have been turned into animated specials, or full-length television series.
