What the hell is going on its already 2010 and no second release Kino No Tabi is an amazing book and anime Tokyopop needs to get there s*** straight and start releaseing the books give into whatever the guy is asking for with the licensing and if thats not the story stop bullshiting us and tell us what it is dont keep saying oh were still having trouble tell us weather or not its coming out we dont want false hopes with this.

I'm slightly displeased by this book. Many things were changed and shifted around. Like the chapters. Even though Keiichi Sigsawa said that you can read them in any order does not mean you can change the original format. Or so what I heard. I've also heard he enjoys describing machines in much detail and TokyoPop shortened the length of the descriptions. HOWEVER! The book was very fun to read. It is truly a wonderful book. I had thought it would've of been darker, but it isn't as dark as I hoped. Having it is better than not having it, correct? I really do wish TokyoPop kept things more to the original work. Please do keep up the great work.

Chech Kinokuniya Bookstores. They sell the books in Japanese.

05.11.2009 12:00 AM

i've heard this has had great reviews, but i can't seem to find a bookstore that sells them.

04.04.2009 12:00 AM

I want to see this become a manga. I know it exists in Japan, but we need it here in poor old America too!

02.27.2009 12:00 AM

Just so you know, there are currently fan translations avilable for the rest of Kino no Tabi online if you look. They already translated book 11. :)

02.07.2009 12:00 AM

Are we ever going to see any more???

01.29.2009 12:00 AM

I love this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12.24.2008 12:00 AM

Anyone know if book two is coming out or the rest of them at all? book three's release date has already passed.

12.02.2008 12:00 AM

I wanted this so bad....but not enough to spend $75 on it!!! Why aren't they making more??

11.24.2008 12:00 AM

Anybody up for a fan translation? The delay is just depressing. =_=

10.17.2008 12:00 AM

yo rhe book was amazing. im reading it again and again. do finish the series man.....an' stop bullshittin', im starving for the rest. somebody needs to work out something.

07.17.2008 12:00 AM

Way to go, tokyopop! Losing the confidence of your customers is an excellent business plan!

07.13.2008 12:00 AM

thanks alot tokyopop! tokyopop just had to mess around with the format of keiichi sigsawa's book (kino no tabi) and now they are having licensing problems cause of that.!@#$%^&*.

06.23.2008 12:00 AM

I'm very sad to see that volume 2 seems to be stalled. I highly enjoyed the anime of this series and was looking forward to reading all of the light novel. I'll be very disappointed if we never get to see more of this wonderful novel series.

06.05.2008 12:00 AM

I heard they had some issues with either the author or the Japanese publisher. Please kiss someone's bottom to get this series published >.

05.18.2008 12:00 AM

I preodered the volume two at Amazon.co.jp 2 years ago, and today I got a Email from them saying; "This unavailable item has been cancelled from your order." What's happened?

05.14.2008 12:00 AM

I agree with most of the comments, and I believe it is a moving and delightful read. It is quite idiotic that they haven't released the second one yet, they can't get the rights? Well, they shouldn't have even released the first one if they weren't going to continue. It just pisses me off that they would do that.

03.26.2008 12:00 AM

Here I am, a good fan of the book and of the show trying to find a volume two but with no luck....If you guys could get volume one's rights, whats the problem with volume 2? Maybe you guys should have thought of getting the rights to the series rather than just the first volume I find that Viz pays better attention to their customers' needs and wants....Barnes and Noble already has volume 2 and 3 on their site as "pre-order" and the release date for number two is Feb. 2008, which has passed. If you guys won't release it, then atleast let the stores know. I think that Viz is leading the Manga revolution just because of their customer service.

03.25.2008 12:00 AM

Volume 2 has been canceled? What a shame. If any series deserves to be published in its entirety, it's this one. I was happy that this amazing series was getting some attention by having the books published in English, but it looks like it was wrong to think so. The sad thing is, I'm honestly not surprised about this.

03.14.2008 12:00 AM

I have been patiently waiting for volume 2 for what feels like an eternity. I just received a Right Stuf (online retailer of all things manga & anime) newsletter that says that Kino no Tabi vol 2 has been discontinued. So is this the end of the license? As a fan, I am incredibly disappointed. I would have rather received news about this series from YOU, the actual publisher, rather than such an indirect source. Please have the decency to communicate with your customers. Openness and honesty would be deeply appreciated.

03.13.2008 12:00 AM

I just finished watching the series today and I thought it was really good so I decided I would search for the novels but from the comments it looks like all 8 won't be translated for a decade or more =(

03.09.2008 12:00 AM

Assuming they decide to finish it anyways.

O HAY THAR TOKYOPOP. So I can't really help but join up to this somewhat inaccurate website to air some already-spoken grievances. Wow. Seriously, people. Wow. I wonder if it is just me, because every fandom I touch ends up screwed. I don't understand why, but if I like it, it gets the short end of the stick. Heck, maybe that is why I like it. Maybe the fact that I like something other than Naruto or Furuba that does it or the fact that the series I like tend to be less marketable or mind-numbingly stupid, but this amazes me every time. I feel like we have been more than generous here. I know that you people claim to have "licensing issues" with Kino, but on top of the already poor treatment of the series' covers, splash art, and story sequences this is getting a little bit tiresome, to be as polite as I feel I can here while still trying to communicate my frustration accurately. The cover design is over-stylized to the point that even rabid fans may experience confusion over what they are getting, no matter how "award-winning" your graphic artist may be. Couple this with the fact that they don't even DEPICT the MAIN CHARACTER on the cover of the novel and you got yourself a surefire way to ensure lower sales through lack of brand-recognition. (Hooray for Marketing 101!) Although the cover is supposedly "cool" and "edgy," this does absolutely nothing to ensure that members of a relatively small and dedicated fanbase can even spot your product on a display on casual glance. However, it does give us a nice eyeful of a potential *spoiler* in the book. Great planning there, guys! I am sure if Viz had beaten you to the punch on licensing this, they could have at least figured out how to put the Elric brothers on the cover of a book ABOUT THE ELRICS. I would have thought that instead of a random one-shot character, maybe it would make some sense to put Hermes or *gasp* KINO! on the cover, but heck! I am just an art student, what do *I* know about design? (Go google that one if you are still lost here. Viz at least got their act together enough to figure out how to make good sales.) And yes, I did still buy the book the day it came out, but honestly guys! I have been waiting for this series for AGES and this is what we are greeted with? Poor graphic design, a lack of respect and accountability to consumers, and an ill understanding of basic marketing stirred into a melting pot of disorganized licensing process. Aside from the poor cover design and alteration of original book order, there is the glaringly mediocre design of the splash pages. It is like someone took the art and said "HEY! THIS IS GOOD! WHY NOT SHRINK IT DOWN TO HORRIBLY TINY LITTLE BOXES AND SLAP THEM INTO A FILM STRIP! THAT WILL LOOK SO COOL!!one1ONE! one!" Oh wait. Too late. Looks like that is exactly what happened. Maybe they thought that this "kewl" and "edgy" design choice would accurately reflect the self-absorbed nature of the Myspace generation to take photos of EVERYTHING their life touches and seal the deal! I know when I am looking for a good-quality book with beautiful illustrations and MANGA ART, I want it to be shrunk down to a bizarrely tiny size and copypasta'd into a clipart of a filmstrip, because that is 100% AUTHENTIC MANGA!!!one one! Way to give the finger to dedicated artist Kouhaku Kuroboshi and the efforts involved to draw all of these lovely images. I can't even begin to air my grievances over the release date to the point that anyone would listen or even care. As far as I know, you people don't even look at this page to adjust the release date (unless it is to black out the link to the next book, of course!) so why would you care what I have to say about that? There would only be another excuse to cover the ineptitude of the licensing department or to shift the blame to the hard-working translators who have been on the ball from day one. Rather than take responsibility for your products, licenses, or consumer care, it would just be another way of avoiding the issue, as was done time and time again with the similarly mistreated Slayers series. (Please God let TP lose the rights and give these books to someone like Seven Seas, who seems to at least care for their little family of books enough to not bite off more than they can chew, let alone lift from an already heaping plate of flavors they will choke on before they get to taste.) So why bother there? What's another year between fans, eh? (If you even are fans anymore.) Doesn't sound like the Tokyopop of 8 years ago. Darn shame. Good thing my Japanese is getting sharper. I will be picking these up when I go to Tokyo in May myself. "100% Authentic" my foot. Call me in another year when two is out. I should be through at least 5 by then. Maybe before then the few dedicated fans who actually get to read this before it is ganked and I am banned will have learned Japanese too. That being said, I am going to go practice some kanji. I'm gunna need it.

Sorry for the doublepost. This site likes to log you out for giggles.

02.25.2008 12:00 AM

Seriously? Where is book 2? I would like to be still with the world of the living when you guys finally get to book 8.

02.25.2008 12:00 AM

I went to Tokyopop's booth today at wondercon and asked about the book, but basically, the guy said, "I think it's by a different company." That basically means, "I have no clue what the heck that book is, but we sure as heck don't carry it."

02.23.2008 12:00 AM

I came on to this site to specifically see what the hold up was on the Kino no Tabi series. It's absolutely wretched how long this has been delayed. I've been waiting almost a YEAR for this release, and yet Amazon.com seems to list this and the next six for pre-order. I'm half temped to find transcripts, used Google's translation service, edit them into proper English and then bind the damned books myself! I sure as hell know how to, and it won't take me more than a year to do it. TokyPop, when, oh when, are you going to release??? At the very least, give me a decent excuse for having it available for pre-order for A YEAR!

02.21.2008 12:00 AM

Tokyopop is disappointing. The release date for vol. 2 keeps getting pushed back. If this continues, it will be 2030 by the time the whole series will be finished. I know these are "light novels" and don't require more than a year to translate. If it's licensing problems then Tokyopop should just give a press statement about the progress of it every now and then. Many people enjoy reading this series so leaving us in the dark will only cause the number of potential buyers to decrease.

02.18.2008 12:00 AM

I've been waiting for #2 for eveeeer ;___;

02.14.2008 12:00 AM

according to bn.com volume 2 will be released on feb. 12

01.13.2008 12:00 AM

According to this site (http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/bal3k8R0Wy88Ft54MJ/browse/item/72212/57/0/0) It's gonna be released in Jan 31 2008. It takes about 2 to 3 months for novels like this to be translated into Chinese. By The Way, I'm interested in buying the English version but I don't live in the US, so are there any internet books store that ships worldwide?(except amazon) And most important "cheep". Thanks all.

12.16.2007 12:00 AM

same question......guess it takes too long to translate an actual novel

12.11.2007 12:00 AM

09.18.2007 12:00 AM

08.29.2007 12:00 AM

one word.....AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when's the next vol. gonna hit the shelves?

08.27.2007 12:00 AM

Kino no Tabi Vol. 1 is a wonderful book and I'm really looking forward to Vol. 2 (whenever that'll be now as its been pushed back so many times). While the story itself is really great and the translation seems wonderful as well, I can't help but feel disappointed in some respects. The cover design is interesting and is at least somewhat consistent with the styling of the other Pop Novels, but I think it (and the other Pop Novel covers) deviates too much from its original Japanese cover. Without actually having Kino on the cover, fans and viewers of the anime in the US who only know the series as Kino's Journey may have had a difficult time realizing that Kino no Tabi and Kino's Journey are one and the same. The Japanese release of the novels had these very nice monochrome and color images, but they only exist in TokyoPop's version as tiny thumbnails in overly-stylized chapter splash pages or even not at all. The chapter order for this volume was also rearranged, and while I can understand that it is now more chronologically "accurate," it just seems like its not the order in which it was intended (even the anime's ordering didn't have Kino's back story until the 4th episode). I also cannot remember if TokyoPop's release had the prologue and epilogue. Kino no Tabi is a great story and I'm looking forward to the second volume and I hope that TokyoPop resolves their issues so that the fans don't have to worry about how these licenses are being handled and if they should even bother with starting something if its not going to be carried out.

The world is not beautiful, therefore it is. And destination is a state of mind... Kino wanders around the world on the back of Hermes, her unusual, anthropomorphic motorcycle. During their adventures, they find happiness and sadness, pain and decadence, violence and beauty, and above all, truth. Through it all, they never lose their sense of freedom.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1972, Sigsawa-sensei was a finalist in the 6th Dengeki Novel Awards. His hobby, not surprisingly, is traveling on this motorcycle. His major works include Kino no Tabi, Alison, and Lilia and Trais
