We Shadows is a modern, edgy retelling of The Ugly Duckling story peppered with bits of Arthurian legend and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Jaybird Birches (nicknamed Goat, because apparently she's as ugly as one) is a faerie that no one in the Land of Faerie likes. Her only friend, Rob, is a talking mushroom that no one else can hear. Rob assures Goat that she's actually a "beautiful faerie princess in training" and that he's there to help her along... but that's stretching the truth a bit. The reality, however, is much more unusual...

Jaybird Birches (Aka Goat)
Our heroine. She is a faerie with little to no glamour to speak of. But Goat is convinced that she's "a beautiful faerie princess in training."

Mushroom
Our sidekick. Mushroom is an enchanted...well...MUSHROOM! Mushroom tries to get Goat to practice her faerie powers, but she won’t have anything to do with it. She once tried the basic faerie power of “size change” and became a slug for three days. 

The Puck
Our only hope. What’s a Puck? The Puck is the faeries’ ambassador to humanity. He is the link that keeps humans believing in magic. But since the Industrial Age, Faerie magic has dwindled, causing most Faeries to fall into a deep slumber. And Puck is nowhere to be found.

Titania
Our Queen. Titania, queen of the faeries, desperately searches for a successor to the Puck before the realm of Faeries falls into eternal slumber. 

The Glamour Gloms 
Our villains. The Glamour Gloms manage to stay awake through their connection to glamour. Their leader is Cosmo, and she believes herself worthy of being the next Puck.

Hero to millions of confused children, Sonny Strait was once worshiped as a distant cousin to Wakka Wakka Wakka, the Hawaiian god of polite laughter. He now uses his powers strange to pirate the oceans of the Geek Arts...all of the Geek Arts.

In the high seas of illustration is efforts have been witnessed as a comic book artist and writer for DC’s Elfquest series, an illustrator for PVP card games (most recently for the Champions of the Galaxy Pro Wrestler Card Game) and developed product illustrations for Ultra-Pro deck boxes and card sleeves.

Some of you might already be familiar with We Shadows creator Sonny Strait. He's the talented voice actor who gives Dragonball Z's Krillin a voice, and brings Full Metal Alchemist's Maes Hughes to life.

With We Shadows, Sonny takes that manic voice-over energy and spills it all over the pages of manga. The results are just as loony and outrageous. As Sonny says, "You will believe an actor can draw!"

I hope you are as entertained, bemused, and enchanted by We Shadows as I am. Seriously, though, how could you not be? Doesn't everyone love butt-kickin' faeries?
