Natsume still bullies her, her class ranking couldn't be lower, some of the teachers are outright hostile and she has been forbidden to contact anyone outside of the school! ADD: At this rate, this series wouldn't be finished once I enter college. That's like, five to six years from now. If you calculate their rate/speed in printing and translating a volume, they only produce once every three months; meaning that in one year, we only get four volumes [or five, if we're lucky.]
Grade school, and now this? There are so much to look forward to. But, sigh... That's life, I guess...

Yep, that is correct. But actually, only 14 volumes are officially out. Volume 15 hasn't been released, and not all all the chapters in volume 16 have gotten out. Chapter 92, which is the latest release, would be the 4th chapter out of 6 in volume 16. Chapter 93 will be released on February 20th....but actually, the chapter usually comes out a few days early, so I wouldn't be surprised seeing it out as early as tomorrow :D

There's already at least 16 volumes. I think the most recent chapter was about 92, but there's still more to come :)
are there really only going to be 14 volumes? becasue if that adds up the way its supposed to that's only 70 chapter, and on onemanga there are already 87 chapters and its still ongoing.......... Does anyone know?

Well yes it's true that Tachibana-sensei meant for his name to be "Luca" but due to some miss-print or something it got around that his name was "Ruka" and then everyone started calling him "Ruka" and we've all gotten used to that name. (Practically everyone calls him Ruka, see try going to Fanfiction.net and try to find one, just one fanfiction where they call him "Luca" and not "Ruka" but I highly doubt you'll find one xD) "Luca" sounds weird to me~ I think "Ruka" is sooo much cuter~ Plus it's going to be weird now because all the old gakuen alice fans who call him "Ruka" will clash with the new Gakuen Alice fans who only started reading it through Tokyopop and they will only know him as "Luca"~ It's going to be weird x.x

Higuchi-sensei NEVER planned to call Luca "ruka". I got this from Japan and it said "Luca".
I have issues saying Luca-pyon, I feel like I have a speech impediment because I am used to calling him Ruca-pyon. LOL I can't wait for this one!!!

Gakuen Alice and Fruits Basket were said that they were the same because, 1) They both start with light hearted cute beginnings. But, soon, it turns into a somewhat dark twist at times. ( Just read after vol.1 to vol 10 ) 2) They were both published by the same company in Japan. 3) They were both in the same Magazine in Japan, Hana to Yume. and so much more... Anyway, I wished they would changed the cover colour for Natsume... Natsume in Pink XD

Gakeun Alice is the best manga ever!!! I love it SOOOOO much!! I think they should have kept the name Ruca instead of Luca, it's sounds better. I cannot wait till it comes out. I have a countdown all ready for it!!!

Ahhh....it's true that Gakuen Alice is much more similar to Kodocha.
mikan is a little like tohru, but gakuen alice and fruits basket are completely different. the story lines are completely different
fruits basket and gakuen alice barely have similarities...i think its more similar to Kodocha.
Glynnis-san, Mikan comes comes off as slightly bratty at the beginning of the series only. In further volumes you will see her personality developed into a way that makes her a "sunshine" character that affects the people around her positively, exactly the "responsible and kind" character you are talking about--this is what makes her similar to Tohru. Ohh....and sorry Viridian-san, I wasn't particularly directing my comment at you^^; I was expressing my views in general, in response to all the previous comments conglomerated together. =]
Similarities of Furuba and Gakuen Alice? Now that you've mentioned it, I don't really think Mikan is the same with Tohru. Not that you guys are saying they are... its just that they may have certain similarities but they are entirely different. Mikan's a little self-centered and bratty... and Tohru's responsible and kind. They are both heroines but have you seen Tohru snap at her classmates the way Mikan did with Sumire? Haha.. It's unTohru-ish... makes me laugh when I think about it.
yes yes Mishia...no ones (or at least- not me) disagreeing that they are different and probably did not influence one another- I'm just saying that sometimes its seems very comparable. and thank you, but my opinions have nothing to do with company marketing strategies- I read these two stories totally independent of each other, and drew my views from my own experiences tnxy tnx
The only thing that's similar is that in some instances, Mikan's and Tohru's personalities come very close. However they are different characters and they were drawn by different people and neither was influenced by the other. If you read Gakuen Alice first then you would be thinking that Tohru reminds you of Mikan rather than the other way around. See look. In the same way, Narumi from Gakuen Alice and Fai from Tsubasa look similar and remind me of each other because they have certain similarities in their character, however they are different characters and were drawn by different people and have nothing to do with one another. See, the chance that Gakuen Alice has similarities with Furuba is just the same as the chance of it having similarities with any other manga. It's just that people are noticing it more with Furuba since Tokyopop decided to pair them up and advertise them together and all.
...as for whether gakuen alice looks exactly like/not at all like fruits basket... in some instances, specially Mikan and early Tohru, its like the same character drawn in 2 different styles...the art style is different but it feels like the ''person' behind the drawing' is the same. When I first began reading Gakuen Alice I'd keep on being reminded of Fruits Basket, and then it would turn around and be so totally not like it that it was like I was on a see-saw. conclusion: its a different story, but there are similarities

Dude... They all are from the same magazine (Hana to Yume), but the character do NOT look the same. Every artist have their unique stile anyways....

I agree with Starry94, gakuen alice does NOT look like furuba! There is more detail in the hair and eyes, and it does not look like a younger version of the furuba characters. Otherwise, they would probably all have much bigger eyes and stuff.
BTW, Natsume does NOT look like Hatori or Yuki!! >. *-*
No, Gakuen Alice has been around for a while, just not in the US. It looks so much more different from Furuba. Actually, I think Tachibana Higuchi's art is much more... artistic. Just look at the detail on Natsume!
Is this chick just doing knock off younger lookin versions of furuba? I mean really!! At my bookstore there's this cardboard stand they have and Tohru and that younger knock off are standing on it together. I mean, at first I thought it was another Natsuki Takaya book(cuz her characters always look similar)....but plz don't get offended and kill me anybody! It's not a bad thing....it's just a little odd....
