Anything by Kosen is amazing. Their artwork is always flawless and their stories captivating. Daemonium is no different. Its awesome and I can't wait for Vol. 2!

07.04.2008 12:00 AM

Wow... Looks nice. I wonder how scary it's gonna be, 'cause I just love horror stuff; I hope it's kinda gory too, though not too much because I don't really like it when cute things die. Mweehee. I like the cover; the colors are very appealing to ones eye.

Okay, I just realized this. This is coming out on my birthday (Yay! July the 8th!). Bad news. I'm going on a holiday to China with my family on July 6th. Oh the irony... I really wanted to read this.

The gateway to hell is opened in this tale of demon bloodlust and angelic redemption.

Alone and disfigured from a tragic car accident in his childhood, Seisu is plagued by haunting visions and hellish nightmares. But when a stay at a remote monastery brings the mysterious young man Yabrail into his life, Seisu discovers not only what’s behind his fragile state of mind, and also that heaven and hell aren't as distant as he once believed...

Seisu: His parents were killed in a car accident when he was young and he received a nasty scar along his face. He hasn’t been able to fit in since and is often teased by the other kids. He wants friends but is unable to become close with anyone besides his sister, Alys.

Yabrail: A mysterious stranger who seems to be following Seisu around. Is he friend or foe?

Alys: Seisu’s sister who has been taking care of him ever since they lost their parents in an accident. She’s loving towards her brother but also seems to control him.

Aurora García & Diana Fernández are two Spanish artists who have been drawing for several years under the name of Studio KÔSEN. Together they have been working for anime magazines and publishing companies in Spain and Poland, and also in the U.S. since 2004. They’ve created two previous graphic novels, Saihôshi the Guardian and Stallion, both published in the U.S. by Yaoi Press and also licensed in Spain, Germany, Poland, Italy and Argentina. Additionally, Yaoi Press published their boy’s love art book Reflections.

Horror is a genre that’s hard to do successfully in manga. It relies so much on music and the movie director controlling what you see and when you see it. It’s just difficult to make a book that scary. That challenge is what first attracted me to Daemonium and I hope it will cast a spell on readers as well. As the editor, what excited me about the project was combining horror elements with hot bishonen characters. Kosen has previously worked on boys love manga. So while this series isn’t that kind of book, it does feature some nice eye candy. And inspired by their favorite horrific video games, Daemonium is full of just flat out creepy stuff!

When I visited Kosen’s house in Spain last year, I got to see a student film that they had made that was very much inspired by Silent Hill. It featured a bandaged zombie like guy with giant rusty nails sticking out of his body. I got a strong sense of how passionate this team is when it comes to their creations! And that’s the same kind of passion and twisted-ness that went into Daemonium.
