Avelen part 6

I saw something shimmer in the sunlight and I wondered what it was. I rolled up the bottom of my jeans so they wouldn’t get wet not that it really mattered anyway, they where already covered in mud from walking down that muddy, slippery path when we said goodbye to pops this morning. I slipped of my shoes and socks and put them together on the side of the creek bed. I walked into the water which was about ankle high. It was cold but refreshing for my feet at the same time I found the spot where I caught the shimmering light. I bent over and picked the unknown object was with my hand. It was light weight and not heavy. It seemed to be at least one year old or something like that it didn’t look brand new at all. In some place’s it had rusty patches on it and in other place’s it had mud on it. The light object was small and round and would’ve been no please don't use racial slurs then the size of my palm. I dusted of as much mud as I could with out damaging it. As I was dusting off the mud, I could see what the object was; it was a small silver coin! I looked around to make sure that no one was there watching me. There was no one and so I cleaned the last of the mud of with my hand and slipped it into my back pocket. I walked out of the cool water back onto the green grass. I tried to dry me feet as much as possible before I put on my dry socks and shoes again.

I headed back up the thick grassy hill and stopped and turned around and looked at the creek one last time. I thought if I would ever come back to this place again? I smiled softly and turned back around to face the burned down village. How could anyone do this? After seeing the results of what just a couple of the Hell King’s men could do, I was ready to face him. I new I was ready now and then, I didn’t need the king’s permission to fight nor Avelen’s. I could do this by myself; after all, I am the successor to Leon. If he could do it, then so could I. I headed away from the house towards the sun with confidence boiling up inside of me just waiting to burst out.

Chapter 5

I started to walk away into the sun, the same direction to where the Hell kings men came from, I figured that if they came from that direction that would be the same direction the castle would be in. But I was wrong. I came to the end of the village. I was standing on a slightly steep grass hill. I stood there still as a brick that concreted to the ground. I was shocked to see what was right in front of my very eyes. I wasn’t able to move, not even to turn around to run back to Avelen and tell her that “we have to get out of here immediately!”  I was bound to the ground it was like my feet was half buried in the ground. What was before me was a Hell King’s camp site. There where tents, hundreds of men wearing amour although I new they weren’t human so I didn’t want to underestimate them, there where horses, a few dragons, and I could slightly see a couple of griffins, half bird half lion creatures with large wings just like those of the hawks from home only three times bigger. I suddenly came to my senses and I was free from the earths clutch. I heard a horn sound from behind and I quickly looked up and saw a griffin quickly approaching the camp sight from behind me. I fell to the ground hoping they wouldn’t notice me as they where flying above me. The Griffin landed where all the other griffins where towards the back of the camp site. I wondered if the griffin’s rider was on watch duty and came back to make a report on the surrounding area. I suddenly realized on where the silver dirty coin must have come from. Someone from this camp site probably dropped it accidentally and it landed in the creek and flowed down stream.

I had to go back now, there would be now way I could take out a whole entire army that almost whipped out this entire land. I just had to warn Avelen about the current situation as soon as possible. I fled from the scene, ran down the hill that was keeping me out of sight from the enemy. I ran as fast as I could back along the path on which I followed to get where I was before, I turned around a slight bend in the path and past the creek where I found the silver coin.

I found the hut which Avelen showed me and brought me in. I didn’t bother to open the gate to the front yard I just jumped straight over it and landed with two feet flat on the ground.

I ran towards the front door and opened the door violently. I saw Avelen sitting down on a chair in the main room safe from harm. Tristan was also there with her. They where both still calmly sipping there drinks which Avelen prepared earlier. They had a surprised look on their face, I didn’t blame them though. Anyone would’ve got scared from noisy appearance into the room. I was huffing and puffing slightly, that wasn’t the fastest I had ran before, I new I could run a lot faster then that. I always came first or second in the five hundred meter sprints in my primary schools sporting carnival, but that was along time ago now.

I tried to catch my breath as I leaned against a wall. Avelen had a worried look on her face now. She gently put down her cup on the small table that was in front of her and started to walk over towards me. I was gaining my breath back more now and so I started to tell what the problem was. Avelen spoke to me before I could start my sentence.

“Are you alright Leon, you look like that you’ve just been chased by a wild cow or something?” Avelen grabbed a white piece of cloth from her pocket, you could barely see it.  She unwrapped the piece of cloth and started to wipe it softly against my forehead and cheeks which where dripping with sweat. I started to answer her question.

“Th-there here, out side at the end of the village. We have to go now, we have to get away.” I said in amongst trying to gasp for air.

“Who’s here?” Avelen asked. She was really calm at the time. She saw some more sweat slip down on the side of my face and she whipped it dry again.

There a minute or so silence and then the silence broke.

“I think I know who he’s talking about. Come on let’s go!” Tristan said with a commanding deep voice. It sounded like he was the commander in charge of a large army standing straight in the front line with his loyal followers behind him.

We raced out the front door, I almost forgot about the crops that was needed to perform my little plan about how to get into the kings castle but I grabbed the cardboard box with the costume all stuffed inside it. I tucked it under my arm making sure that nothing dropped out of it on our way out. Tristan slammed the door wide open almost breaking it but he was sure that he didn’t break it.

I noticed as we where heading out the door that Tristan was holding Avelen’s hand making sure that she didn’t get left behind. I followed Avelen and Tristan behind them as we went out side, Trevino was still standing there waiting patiently for us, and she wasn’t the type of horse that ran away every time she had the chance to. No, Trevino was kind, gentle and very patient with people. She’s not a friend to me but rather she’s family, Trevino has been with me ever since I was young, for as long as I could remember, every memory I sheared, Trevino sheared with me. She was all ways right there by my side through the good times and the bad times. I always new there was something magical about Trevino, I just never realized that she would be this magical and lead me to another world.

Tristan quickly grabbed Trevino’s reins that where dangling down from her nozzle and handed them to me and put them in my free hand.

“You know how to operate Pegasus do you?” Tristan asked me.

“Yeah, I do now.” I quickly answered.

“Well then hop on and work your magic!” Said Tristan.

I offered Avelen the front row seat and she agreed to my offer, if something where to happen while we where in the air and she fell off, then I wouldn’t be behind her to catch her if she fell off. I wrapped my arms around her and took proper hold of the rains.

“What about you?” I asked Tristan who was still standing there watching us.

“Nah, I’ll be fine, I don’t need a horse o fly, I’ve got my own special trick up my sleeve.” Tristan said with confidence.

“Ok, suit yourself.” I said in return, perhaps he had some kind of magic spell that allowed him to fly. I looked around me to see which way was best to leave the small hut but then something distracted me. It was a huge white feather floating down swiftly and silently and landed in the palm of my hand. I looked around again and I didn’t see any birds anywhere. I wondered where it came from.

“Are you ready to go Leon and Avelen?” Tristan asked us.

I turned around to face Tristan only to see gigantic white wings with a ting of silver on his back. I looked at the soft fluffy white feather that fell into my hand and looked back at Tristan, how did he grow wings so quickly all of a sudden? Tristan must have been the same thing as Avelen only a lot stronger then her.

“it looks like you’ve never seen wings before.” Tristan said. He must have noticed my surprise look on my face and wanted to say something about it. He was right though. I had never seen such huge wings in my whole entire life before.

“Well yeah, I’ve never been here before so it would be only natural that I’ve never seen wings before apart from Avelen’s.” I said with some sarcasm in my voice.

“That would be a reasonable excuse then, let’s talk while we fly then shall we?  C’mon “mortal” work your magic!” said Tristan while pointing his finger into the never ending sky.

“Alright already, I’m on it! Just give me a minute to remember the words, I’ve only heard Avelen say it twice and even then she said it quickly.” I made sure I was holding the rains right and tight so they wouldn’t slip out of my hands. I was feeling nervous this time, up until now it was only Avelen telling Trevino where to go and not me. I took a deep breath and told Trevino to get ready, I wasn’t sure where we where going to go now. I saw Tristan standing in front of Trevino and he said in a soft calm voice not to worry, if anything where to happen to either of us he would be there to help us in a flash. I took a deep breath again, inhale and exhaled. I closed my eyes for a extremely short minute and opened them back up again, Tristan was still standing in the same position before, I knew he was waiting on me to take off and I was pretty sure that Avelen was to.

I took one more deep breath before saying the magic words, “FLY TO OUR DESTINATION TREVINO!” As soon as I finished saying those few magic words with out a second to spare, Trevino galloped towards the fence and jumped over it with out landing on the other side but instead, she stayed in the air, flapping those big giant wings of hers and still galloping to stay in the air. Tristan was right beside us making sure that Avelen didn’t fall off. I was more relaxed now that we where in the air with the fresh breeze passing by me, pushing back my hair. I noticed that we where flying against the wind and not with it. This was easy to tell because of the way my hair was blowing. Avelen’s hair was slightly being pushed back by the gentle wind pushing pass us. Avelen’s hair wasn’t in my face like I thought it would be with it being so long. I remembered about a girl that used to work at the supermarket, the same place where I worked back at home, she had similar hair to Avelen’s, same length but different tone of color, the girl I remembered had chocolate dark brown hair and I longer fridge then Avelen. I wasn’t sure on why I suddenly remembered this girl, I couldn’t even remember her name, it has been so long since I’ve seen her, I haven’t even seen her once since she moved out of town. Her job at the supermarket was only temporary so maybe she was traveling with her parents or maybe her mum and dad where there on business perhaps. I didn’t concern me though, she was only there for about two or three weeks so I didn’t really know her that much.

I looked down and I got a little bit startled on how high we where, I never realized how high we had gotten in such a short amount of time. I wasn’t afraid of heights which was a good thing for me, other wise we would’ve still been on the ground. We had left the old burned down village and had passed a couple of creeks that where visible from the sky. I saw a few houses untouched by the Hell King’s Army. I wondered if the owners had placed a magic spell to protect their home and return there once I had defeated the Hell King, but that wasn’t going to be any time soon, I still had a lot to learn.
