More rain, just what we need, you thought bitterly.

What a waste to a perfectly good Saturday in July. This wasn’t your idea of a great day: infact, it was pretty much the opposite. You loved to waterski, swim, and ride four wheelers around the beaqch with your best friends. But to make matters even worse, they were all out of town.

Tip, Tap

“Why am I always left here alone?” you whispered to yourself. You hated to be alone, just like you hated silence. Both of them seemed to tug at your skin, teasing you for being here, in the dark of the cabin you share with your friends Autumn and Kristen. Not that they would know about the crawling shadows, they were in sunny Costa Rica, having the time of their lives; without you.

“I’m so pathetic. I can’t even survive two days by myself…. Alone in this dark cabin,” you whinned and let out a deep sigh. The whole cabin was shaking, due to the high winds. You didn’t know what was more frightening: the silence or the sinking feeling you had deep within your gut, the creepy feeling you get when you know that somethings not right. To make matters worse, there must have been a draft in the cabin, because the hair on your neck and arms were standing on end.

Outside, the storm only seemed to get worse: the rain so heavy, it was like a blanket, blocking all of your vision.

“I knew we should have bought a radio, or at least some batteries,” you said uneasily as you looked over to your side at the dead flashlights. You had tried to light some candles earlier, but you couldn’t get the darn lighter to work.

The house shook some more. You were really beginning to worry now. After all, you were in the middle of nowhere in a thick forest, miles away from the nearest town. A sad and lonely 19 year old, with a banned license.

By now, you could barely hear your own thoughts over the sound of the rain. You finally decited to have an early dinner, in order to get your mind off of the storm. As you walked out of the living room into the kitchen area, you saw Autumn’s cat, Lucy, hiding under the table, shivering with her back hair standing up.

You were about to ask her what was wrong, when the entire cabin seemed to jolt violently, causing you to fall into the cabinets and onto the floor. The glass in all the windows shattered simultaneously, sending a shower of glass and heavy rain everywhere. You could no longer see anything, so you gripped onto the kitchen table, saying some prayers under your breath, hoping for it all to stop. Stuff from all over the cabin was flying around, like small but deadly missles cutting your skin and breaking more objects around you.

Suddenly, this unbearably loud sound rang through your ears; that horrific sound that was impossible to describe. Above that sound, you heard the sound of snapping wood, as the wind and rain entered the cabin at ful force, ripping you away from the table and into the air.

Everything went silent and black.
