She couldn't remember how it happened or how she got there, she just knew she had to get out. She had been in the market and it happened to be quite busy that day, but someone must have noticed she was gone by now…maybe they were in this very building right now! Wouldn't they have come by now?
Wait.
She suddenly remembered a certain booth with samples of a new drink…
"What's in that stuff!"
"She's passing out for goodness sake!"
"All right ladies, all right. We'll take the samples away. We have a nurse in the back, she can take care of the girl."
Then, everything went black. And now she was in a dungeon; her head still wasn't clear.
"Hmm," She thought, "the drink must've been drugged but…"
Suddenly, two masked men dragged a boy who looked about her age into the dank room. The boy struggled against the two pairs of strong arms but to no avail. Another man opened the door to the cell. Then they murmured something to each other, secured the door, and left.
The girl examined the boy. He had forest green hair that matched his brilliant eyes and he seemed to be of an average class, considering he was wearing a plain orange tunic and brown breeches. He also had a purple pendant that looked similar to the one she was wearing.
"What." He said bluntly.
"Oh, sorry, I just haven't seen anyone…decent in a while." She said and then burst with questions, "Do you know what happened? Why are you here?"
"I was in the market because my little sister wanted to go shopping." He said, "I remember looking for her, but then a drank some sample thing this guy gave me and-"
"That's what happened to me!" She exclaimed.
"Really?" He said sarcastically, but the girl continued without noticing.
"Yes, I drank the sample and ended up here, the drink must've been-"
"-drugged." He finished, "But why us? You look pretty average. I know I'm of the middle class. They couldn't get a whole lot of money out of us."
"True." She replied.
They were interrupted by the deafening sound of a door slamming.
"Ah, Sapphire and Sycamor…at last." A man that sounded like the one at the booth said as he slowly opened the cell door. Sapphire and Sycamor backed up and Sapphire could feel her heart pumping out of her chest. Even Sycamor, the boy, looked frightened but they didn't dare confront him.
"Let's get straight to the point," he continued, "Give me the pendants and no one gets hurt."
Sapphire reached behind her neck to unfasten the necklace.
"Wait, he wants them for a reason." Sycamor whispered too loudly.
"Very good." said the man, "But do you know why I want them?"
"Yes. Yes I do." Said Sycamor.
The man looked utterly surprised. At that moment, Sycamor grabbed Sapphire's hand and pushed by the man in his moment of shock, but they were too slow. He grabbed Sapphire, who was behind Sycamor and said, "Ha! Not so easy to escape is it boy? Go ahead, use what the pendant gave you- or she dies!" While he was saying this, he held Sapphire, who looked like she was about to faint, firmly.
Sycamor just froze. He didn't know Sapphire, but he didn't want her to die either.
"Hmm?" said the man mockingly. When Sycamor just stood there, the man moved his hand while still gripping Sapphire and a ring of fire surrounded them.
At that moment, Sapphire fell into the center of the fire while the man emerged unharmed! Sycamor then ran for his life out the door and into the hall, but someone who forced him to the ground grabbed him. The last thing he heard was, "The agency is here! Don't let them get away with the children!"
Everything went black…
