First, I would like to apologize for my absence here these past few weeks. My Internet connection has been nothing less than completely dead, cutting me off from most of civilazation except for a few e-mails I could get through before it died again.

They may not be as prevalent in Kyoto as in Tokyo, but gaming arcades do seem to be everywhere here.

I was wandering a large store in Kyoto called Izumiya (it's like a grocery store with three floors of department stores, including electronics and a little bookshop) when I happened upon their video game section.

I first must apologize for having not written a column here for the past two weeks. I've been going crazy trying to get everything settled in, plus I had no Internet near me until this last Monday. It's been like living in the wilderness having no Internet.
