Tohru Honda was an orphan, living with her grandfather, when one day fate kicked her out of the house and she was forced to take up residence in a tent in the forest. Little did she know that the land she was staying on belonged to the Sohma family, a clan of beautiful and mysterious people. After stumbling upon the teenage squatter, the Sohmas invite Tohru to stay in their house in exchange for cooking and cleaning. Everything's going well until she discovers the Sohma family's greatest secret: when hugged by members of the opposite sex, they each turn into their Chinese Zodiac animal!

I love Fruit Baskets. Its the best manga ever. The story is great. And the characters are fantastic. They just bring everything together. I can't wait for the last three volumes to come out!

I would buy it but its too long! I think its a waste to buy a manga over 10 volumes long cos then it just takes to long to read. Besides my parents dont exactly appreaciate my new hobby or I would! So I'm thinking of renting them from my libraray (if they even do manga at my libraray)...
One of the funniest, if not the funniest, mangas I have ever read. It has greatb art work and great romance, buy it or hate yourself for not getting such an amazing book.

Though primaraly directed at female audiences, Fruits Basket is a worthy manga for anyone to get into. It also upholds a variety of charecters (each partaining to a member of the Chinese Zodiac), so that readers will surely find a member that realates to them personally. While holding true to some fantasy aspects, it never drifts too far beyond what a normal everyday teen has to deal with. This is part of what makes Fruits Basket such a high competitor.
pondrthis..that was deep man haha. but its a really nice comment. i find myself wondering how tohru would act in a certain situation! shes a pretty cool woman. i really really wish these characters were real, they could teach our society today alot of things. =]
I have to say that, even as an adult (straight) male, I enjoy "Fruits Basket" thoroughly. The character interactions are much deeper than in any other series of anime/manga, and because it IS anime/manga, the overemotional aspect of a lot of these interactions don't quite tingle my suspension of disbelief. (In other words, I don't say, "How cheesy," because, well, it's nothing compared to people turning into animals.) This is an amazing thing about the series. Furthermore, I really feel that all of the characters, especially Tohru, show an inner strength that a lot of people should attempt to emulate in their lives. I find myself both admiring characters like Kisa, Tohru, and Hatori and asking myself in real life, "How would Tohru act?" I think that this series is a landmark in entertainment. If Hollywood knows what's best for them, they'll take a few lessons from "Fruits Basket", such as how to make a proper love triangle. They should also note that the comedic aspects do not overlap with the romantic and pain-centered aspects; too many American romances are based around the "comedy-of-errors" storyline and too few are serious romances with comedy elements added onto the outside. Witholding nothing, "Fruits Basket" is the archetype of aesthetics. My only hope is that everyone is able to see it for what it truly is: pure beauty.

Hi! I picked up this manga about a month and a half ago and wow! I love it!!! I love it love it lve it! I'm only up to vol 8 been buying about two a week at Borders. I can't wait tillI finish then I'll treat myself with the anime vertion. :) FreYAo7- have you tired amazon.com? If not check the phone book for local shops that might carry it otherwise you could have B&N order it in for you.

I love furaba alot and im very happy who tohru chose in the end the story was different than any shoujo i read and it had its dark parts and all the character developments were good. I just love the Mabudachi trio a.k.a. ayame,shigure and hatori they like best friends i really dont know whose the funniest. i'd reccomend this book to everybody!!

Fruits Basket has to be one of my most favorite manga series. There are a few things that I don't like about it, but on the whole...a great series!
