If you wish to point out that the correct way to spell "a lot" is "a lot”, then you should use correct grammar. However, as it is becoming common for "a lot" to be spelled "alot", don't be surprised when that becomes an accepted way to spell "a lot". It makes much more sense to spell “a lot” as one word when it is being used as an adverb to modify a verb, an adjective or another adverb. Otherwise, “a lot” reads as if it is being used as a noun. Whatever your opinion on the “correct” way to spell “a lot”, you understand what the writer intends to convey when using “a lot” or “alot”; just as I understood from your grammar-challenged sentence, “PLEASE NOTICE THAT THE SPELLING IS "a lot." Not "alot."”, that you meant to convey that the correct way to spell “a lot” is “a lot” and not “a lot”.
