Hope Donovan got a little out of hand on Friday night. You see the result.

I caught this guy at the start of the show, working on a large chalk drawing right outside the Civilization booth. I wanted to stop by a bit later to see how it all turned out, but unfortunately, I never got the chance.

Blogs: LOST IN THE CROWD: NYCC EDITION - 04/20/08
No, I'm not there. But Manga Recon's own Katherine Dacey is! She's covering the con and so far has two con reports focusing on the anime/manga news that's been coming from the NYCC. Manga Recon at NYCC '08: Day 1 Manga Recon at NYCC '08: Day 2 Yep, she braved the chaos of Saturday, where they reportedly had some crowd control issues and had to shut down hallways due to over crowding, to bring you the latest from the floor of the con. Ultimo, Yen Press, Del Rey...

This may have been taken at Ninja, but I think Lillian looks like she's right out of Spain in this photo.

Blogs: I'M NOT GOING TO BLOG ABOUT NEW YORK COMIC-CON
Not that I don't have a lot I could say about it, mind you, but I feel like I'm a little late to the party. Much of what I might have said about the convention has already been said. On top of that, I managed to catch a pretty nasty bug shortly after I got back and have been out of commission for the past few days (which is the professional way of saying "very highly medicated on prescription cough syrup"), so I don't feel like I'm in the right state of mind for blogging. However, ...

Kat & Mouse artist Federica Manfredi draws a sketch for a fan during one of her signings. I've known Federica for over two years now, but New York Comic-Con was the first time we've ever been able to hang out in person.

A photo of Josh Pool, our resident marketing "ninja." Josh works with me on promoting most of my books, including the two Jim Henson titles. He, uh...doesn't usually look like this.

Photos: NYCC: WRITING FOR MANGA PANEL
New York Comic-Con marked the debut of the TOKYOPOP in-booth panel. I wasn't sure how well they'd work out, since if you've been to a comic book convention, you know how difficult it can be to hold someone's attention. By and large, however, I think the panels were a success. My personal favorite was the Writing for Manga panel, which was moderated by my fellow editor, Paul Morrissey. From left to right, we're looking at Frank Marraffino (The Dark Goodbye), June Kim (12 Days), T Campbell (Div...

One thing I learned at New York Comic-Con is that Svetlana's developed quite a fanbase. Another thing I learned is that I'm awful at pronouncing her last name. This photo was taken during Svet's presentation on web comics.
Friday, 03-02-07, 11:09 PM
Svetlana drew quite a crowd, including at least one fellow comic book artist. For at least a few minutes, our signing line was able to compete with some of the signing lines in the neighboring DC booth.

Photos: NYCC: JOANNA ESTEP AT NINJA
This is the first of four photographs taken at a restaurant called Ninja, which is EXACTLY what it sounds like. It's the only restaurant where your first course comes complete with a swords, as Joanna Estep, our awesome Road Song artist, discovered.

Ninjas that look THIS good can only be found in comic books, or drawing them, apparently.
