Twelve Kingdoms tells an intriguing story of a girl growing up to be a king - yes, a king - in a world not of her own. The world is a masterpiece of mystery and wonders, planned and constructed with utmost care to the details - and it comes with a complete set of history and lives lived. This series is one worth the wait.

Two days ago, I picked up a copy of the first novel of the "Twelve Kingdoms" series, by Fuyumi Ono. I was originally introduced to the anime by a friend years ago when it still aired in Japan and instantly fell in love with it. Unlike most anime who lack both characters and plot with depth, even the most minor characters grew to be important in the series, and the only thing as complex as Ono's carefully-plotted story were her well-developed characters.
