I dont care what your doing right now; put down the book, turn off the radio, stop watching the television. Just give me five minutes of your time. Look around. Look at the computer screen, read this. It doesnt matter what your doing this very second, or from this hour on. Whatever time it is, someone in the world is being born, and everywhere a person is dying. Someone just got murdered; someone is attempting suicide. A kid is being thrown down to the ground by awful words. A person is smiling for the first time in maybe ten years. Someone is crying from happiness, another is crying from pain. There is someone being told they wont live much longer. The world is one big everlasting cycle that wont end. But when things start to tumble down, and someone is begging on their knees, how will it go on forever? It will eventually quit.
As data shows, there were 20,308 homocides...There were 30,622 suicides. More people are taking their own lives, instead of someone else. The people that get their lives taken away by murder wanted a chance at life, but it was taken away from them. They did not have a choice. But, so many people DO have a choice, and when things get rough, they can't help but want to die. Someone just died from suicide this hour, and there is nothing we can do about that now. But, what about the future? I mean, just look at any website, myspace.com is one of the biggest websites on the net, right? Most teenagers will visit there at least once. They can talk with friends, and make new friends. But, what if they're being rejected at school, and now, even a website? Then where else is there to turn?
How can people not see the sad reality of our nation, and our world. If someone is acting depressed, so many would just rather label them a pathetic name, then actually find out whats wrong; the most popular label, "emo." Listen up everyone, all people have emotions. Some can bottle it up, and it builds up. Others let it show so that they CAN get help from it, but yet some people dont seem to take advantage of that opprtunity. There are tiny problems that can still amount to big problems. We need to realize how lucky we are compared to the people in Iraq, poor countries in Africa, and other thrid world countries. I don't want you to just listen to this speech, and say "oh, thats terrible" and then start daydreaming again, I want you to make a difference! Maybe some people do need attention to feel loved, and we need to give it to them.
People do take their lives everyday, and we can't just let that happen. Listen to me, suicidal rates go up every year. Those people had no one to catch them, but we always have family and friends to back up our stumble. But, if everyone just gives up on each other...Nothing will change. Nothing. Doing the slightest things might help someone change their minds about suicide. Make them smile, make them laugh. Let them know this world isn't as bad as they might think.
People need to know others care about them. But so many are afraid to tell one another how they feel about them before it is too late. It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks or says as long as YOU know your doing something right. In reality, we truely are all the same. We all need food, water, sleep, oxygen, and most importantly, we need love. Regardless of where love comes from, love is love, no matter what.
Did you know that depression medication had risen drastically in the last two years. Why are we all so sad!?
Make a difference in anyway you can. Helping someone out, might just save their life. There aren't any magic words, and you barely have to say anything at all. No matter how much you may hate complaints, listen to people and try to talk to them as often as possible. Just try to understand where they're coming from, and help to stop them from not having a future. Give patience, sympathy, and tolerance. Imagine life without someone close to you. Almost impossible, right?
Here are a few easy signs that might lead to suicide:
1. If a person says : "I wish I wasnt alive..." or, "Maybe I will die in my sleep..."
2. Withdrawing from friends, family, and all usual activities.
3. Wide mood swings; and Fatigue.
4. Being preoccupied with death or dying.
5. Changes in routine, including sleeping patterns.
6. Saying goodbye to people as if they wont be seeing them again.
7. Self injury.
Depression is a serious thing. Though not everybody who feels "depressed" wants to kill themselves/harm themselves, it becomes a more appealing option when your life becomes gray with no changes. Believe me, I would know. Sometimes you just want pain, in some form or another (not neccesarily CUTTING yourself) to feel something different. I was recently diagnosed with clinical depression: I'm tired a lot (or was), felt like being alone, and several times, had some urges to... ya know....like, do dangerous things. Like running barefoot on gravel and glass and all that crap. It's hard, but suicide is one thing I don't ever find appealing. Medicine helps. Suicide is SCARY, people. SCARY.
