[YC07] Hinako Takanaga Focus Panel

    n
  • She's currently working on Bokiyou na Silent.
  • n
  • She's hoping to come with Koisuru Boukun in the winter of this year.
  • n
  • Currently she's very busy, and she doesn't like hectic schedules, she likes to relax.
  • n
  • Does she admire any other BL mangaka/writers? Her favorite anime is Ashita no Joe. Her favorite artist is Murata Renji, and she's always loved Moto Hagio.
  • n
  • Favorite character she's drawn so far and would like to draw again: She loves all the characters she's made, but especially Souichi.
  • n
  • She says she's really not the silent type, she loves to talk a lot.
  • n
  • Advice to newbies and wannabes: if you draw a lot you'll draw better. If you have any free time, just keep drawing.
  • n
  • She'd like to see Koisuru Boukun in English.
  • n
  • On how she comes up with characters: When she develops characters, she establishes a single trait and then puts the character in a situation to see where s/he'll go from there.
  • n
  • Another fan asked what her favorite scenarios were. She says she really likes "hetare" type, the lightly aggressive or "weak" seme.
  • n
  • On inspirations: She has some experiences in her life or surroundings that influence her manga.
  • n
  • Her favorite part of the creative process is when she inks, but she really likes all of the parts. But sometimes she really just wants to get the finished product out.
  • n
  • Someone asked what the inspiration for the comedic elements of her stories are, and what the inspiration for the serious elements are. Takanaga-sensei says that her natural personality is more comedic, so it comes naturally to draw comedy stories, which she likes better than serious manga. When she draws serious manga it really depends on the characters themselves, and a lot of her serious aspects are inspired by the more serious parts of her life and herself.
  • n
  • Sensei is a little worried about how her cat is doing without her in Japan.
  • n
  • The next fan asked how she got into drawing manga, and if she plans to ever do an artbook. Sensei says she loved drawing manga as a child and had a close friend who pressured her into drawing boys love-- specifically Captain Tsubasa doujinshi. She's had some talks about an artbook, but no plans have gone forward so far.
  • n
  • Her favorite series that she's done-- a difficult question, she says --is Koisuru Boukun.
  • n
  • Will Souichi keep his promise to smex up Morinaga? It depends on Morinaga! She plans on continuing the series for another 2-3 volumes but isn't quite sure yet.
  • n
  • This fan asked what Takanaga-sensei hopes fans experience out of her manga. She says in addition to BL fans, she genuinely wants people who wouldn't normally like BL to enjoy her work.
  • n
  • Final question: how is she usually published, first in chaptered anthologies or first in tankobon? The answer, of course, is that it comes out in regular anthologies and is then collected in tankobon, as is typical for manga in Japan.
